Friday's Gelhausen sample value was 3,431; today's value was 3,049, pretty normal for a weekend. Your editor continues to search for a job. He's waiting to hear back about that interview in Florida, US.

[So far, I have no strong leads in either Northern or Southern California and so we will probably be leaving the state. The Florida job possibility is by no means nailed down, so I've got my fingers crossed. Probably the best place I could find a job, in terms of setting up the non-profit corporation, would be in Washington State, but I have no leads there. If you have a lead on anything in Washington State that seems to match my skill set, please find me online as lilo or email me at lilo at openprojects dot net. Thanks. --Ed.]

The staff of Open Projects Net wishes you an excellent weekend.

Yesterday's poll was counted by andy. The numbers are as follows:

    Counted responses:

    YES 42
    NO 4

    Disqualified responses:

    YES without snailmail address 11
    NO without snailmail address 2
    Duplicate sender 2

Your editor should have been clearer in the original posting that the address required was of the type "snailmail". But it didn't appear to affect the totals. The money has been disbursed and thanks to all who participated.

Today's Gelhausen sample hit another record value, in a small way, at 3,475 and network operation is still nominal. Your editor continues his job hunt.

WeThree and trelane note that they've started a new channel, #geekswithguns, for geeks with an interest in firearms. It's not affiliated with ESR's group in the SF Bay area, though your editor imagines that members of that group are welcome.

Have a great evening!

UPDATE: Per global notice, the poll has been closed. The results are overwhelmingly in favor of disbursing the money. I'll get cdlu to count the results officially and post them tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for their input and especially to one of our users for making an additional, personal contribution.

Today's Gelhausen sample was another record, at 3,472. At press time, network operation appears nominal. Your editor is still sending out resumes and hoping for the best. His bank account is down to about $200.

Please participate in an informal poll. My last major expenditure was to pay $228.36 for two months of SprintPCS to keep my cell phone from being turned off. I use this phone for local conversation and job hunting, but also for critical conversations with OPN personnel and for early-morning pages for emergencies (clone attacks and services outages). It includes 1,000 minutes of long-distance airtime and, when I call out-of-area, it's generally to Canada to speak with OPN staff.

This phone is the most frequent method by which OPN staff reach me. OPN has enough cash left after the lawyers' fees went out to reimburse me for this payment and it could make a difference. We are not yet incorporated as a non-profit, so we do not have a board and a formal budget. Is this single instance a legitimate use of OPN funds? Please email with subject "Cell phone expense" and include your realname and address in the body, with the word "YES" or "NO". Thanks.

Have an excellent Wednesday evening.

The Gelhausen sample for today hit 3,426, a bit low due to an earlier problem with packet loss on benford and a services crash right around sampling time. However, the network impact did not appear to be serious.

Your editor is waiting to find out if he'll get that in-person interview. It may be a couple of days before he finds out. Thanks to SirDibos and to Chris Coleman for providing a bit of potential work to defray expenses. Many thanks also to starlady for putting up a contribution page. It's notoriously difficult to live between jobs in the San Francisco Bay area and in the middle of a tech recession it's quite a bit worse. Starlady is sending an initial check and your editor is extremely grateful for the generosity of the contributors. [The cost of living being what it is in the SF area, it won't resolve our problems, but it should help us hang in there a bit longer. Thanks, everybody! --Ed.]

Have a great evening. :)

The weekend Gelhausen samples dipped to the low 3,000's, a normal occurrence for the weekend. Today's sample hit a new record at 3,455, a nice thing to see on a Monday.

Your editor is still waiting to hear whether he will be flying out to Florida for an interview. In the meantime, he is rapidly reaching the point of financial meltdown. He will not be able to pay the rent this month. If you have any job leads, particularly in the San Francisco Bay area, in Southern California or in Washington state, please email lilo at openprojects dot net or catch me in the early morning OPN time as lilo. Thanks.

Have an excellent week!
