About OPN: Network Growth

The chart below plots the increase in size of Open Projects IRC over time. OPN began as a 4-person Linux support channel, #LinPeople, on EFNet IRC. By 1995 it had moved to its own network, irc.linpeople.org. In early 1998, the servers were moved to a new network, irc.openprojects.net. At its inception, Open Projects had about 100 users and less than 20 channels. OPN is a community project, not affiliated directly with a single corporate sponsor such as VA Linux Systems or Red Hat, Inc.

The network is well into a sensitive period in its growth. If we can manage our growth effectively and implement solutions to the common problems of interactive network growth, we'll do well.
