As of mid-2002, Open Projects IRC is home to such groups as Agenda Computing, Arianne, Debian GNU/Linux, the Enlightenment window manager project, the FluxBox window manager project, freshmeat, GNUpdate, Gtreamer streaming media framework, handhelds.org, IceWM, ISFree, an ISP billing system, kernelnewbies, KDE and various KDE applications, Linux Logical Volume Manager Project, the Linux Terminal Server Project, Linux XFS filesystem, Linux.COM, linuxppc.org, LiveJournal, Open Source Web Design, SchoolForge, Simple DirectMedia Layer, the Snort IDS project, Subversion, the tinc VPN daemon, Vorbis and the Wine Project.

OPN is also home to support and discussion channels for crossfire, freeciv, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Linux (including channels for Conectiva, Debian, Mandrake, Red Hat, Slackware, Sorcerer, Stampede and SuSE), Mac development, X application development, Zope, various assembler and machine languages, c, c++, lisp, forth, perl, python, and PHP, to an unofficial discussion channel for the lojban artificial human language and to a variety of other project and support groups.

Open Projects Net is not affiliated directly with corporations such as VA Linux Systems or Red Hat, Inc. It is purely a community project, though we've had quite a bit of assistance from corporate sponsors and other supporters. The OPN founder and head of operations is Rob Levin, who can be found on OPN IRC under the nick "lilo."
