Today's Gelhausen sample was not affected by any server drop-outs and came in at 3,440, a new record and a strong showing for a Friday. Your editor finally got a technical interview today, a phone interview with a company in Florida, and it went well. He may fly out there next week. Wish him luck.

Network operation is nominal. Have a great weekend! :)

Yesterday's Gelhausen sample, on its way to another record, dropped to 3,393, due to packet loss on forward. Today's sample dropped from record numbers to 3,177, this time due to similar problems on benford. These difficulties are hard to avoid given the design of IRC, which like most TCP services is very vulnerable to both networking problems and deliberate denial of service.

We're discussing various fault tolerance options which would involve fairly major protocol enhancements to both client and server, but these can't be implemented in the short term without serious developer availability. If you'd like to get involved, please stop by #mistertoad and volunteer your help. We're in particular need of experienced sockets coders.

Omnic notes that the bug-tracking system for Debian GNU/Linux has just rolled over its 100000th bug. The submitter was ElectricElf. Congratulations (we think). :) The system is currently down due to a, um, hardware bug.

Your editor is still looking for a job. If you have a possible lead for him, you can find him online as lilo or email him at lilo at openprojects dot net. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Have a great Friday!

Yesterday's Gelhausen sample dropped a bit, to 3,418. Today's sample looked to be well on the way to another record before dropping further due to connection problems with forward.

Your editor is beginning to make choices as to which bills to pay and which to withhold from payment. He should have phone and Internet service for another two weeks and his family should be living in an apartment until the end of the month. He's hoping to pay his mobile phone bill this month.

So far, that job hunt has not been a howling success. If you have any leads, find me as lilo online or email lilo at openprojects dot net. Thanks.

Yesterday's Gelhausen sample was another record, at 3,422. Today's sample looks as if it may be in the same range. We need more qualified servers for the main rotation; herbert has been pinging out on a regular basis. We're working on it. Pursuant to this effort, we'll be restarting carter in a few minutes. We'll notify you if you're on that server. We will also be restarting services a bit later in the evening. Network operation currently appears nominal.

Your editor continues to look for a job. He has a couple of leads but nothing is nailed down yet. This is of particular concern since the non-profit incorporation should be done in the particular state he's living in. Incorporation in either California or Texas seems the least problematic. Job leads on admin or coding positions in either of those states (or for that matter, anywhere at all :) would be particularly appreciated. Please contact lilo on #openprojects or email lilo at openprojects dot net.

The server upgrade project continues. Thanks to asuffield for his hard work on the tree. If you'd like to participate, please drop by #mistertoad.

Open Projects Net staff wishes you an excellent week!

Yesterday's Gelhausen sample was 2,810. Today's is back up to 3,144. Australian servers jordan and simak were particularly splitty over the last two days and several splits occurred on US and European servers. Network operation is currently nominal.

Have a great week!
