Today's Gelhausen sample is at 3,053. We experienced some hubbing problems earlier in the day as driz rebooted farmer to implement a new kernel release. Other than that things seem relatively calm. Your editor did a bit of sightseeing in Paris today, and wishes to comment with gratitude that Parisian natives have been extremely hospitable to him during his stay here.
Enjoy your evening and your Sunday! :)

Another light problem day, just some splitting from card and a couple of splits from lackey. The Gelhausen sample is not yet out.
Your editor is beginning to worry about money. If you'd like to hire a C or perl coder or perhaps a network administrator, please write to email address lilo at openprojects dot net. He'll be back in the Bay area on Monday and quite happy to interview. [If you'd like to talk to me today, contact Matt or robster and they'll be happy to get my attention! --lilo]
In funding news, the Mandrakesoft contribution will probably not be in our PayPal account until early in the week. Then it will take several days to move our funds from PayPal to the non-net world.
Have a great Friday evening and enjoy your weekend!

Good evening to all. The network was fairly quiet today. Card had some ping out problems but is not currently in the rotation. Sagan has been moved and your editor needs to get in touch with the sponsor to get the new IP address. This evening's Gelhausen sample is back up to 3,216 and it appears that Andreas has managed to get his site updating in more rapid fashion. Your editor visited Le Sous-Bock and had an interesting, geeky time of it. Thanks to huggie for helping him find his way there. Thanks also to Brian O'Shea, our last contributor to the OPN Fund for yesterday, who brought us to a record six contributions and/or pledges for the day, totalling $1,105.66.
Have a great evening and a happy Friday!

Network activity for the last 24 hours has been fairly sedate. The Gelhausen sample for this evening is down a bit at 3,056. Your editor will be at Le Sous-Bock at 49 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris tomorrow evening beginning around 6pm (8pm Paris time), with some local computational enthusiasts. If you're in the neighborhood, please drop by. Huggie describes Le Sous-Bock as "...a good place to get beer."
Last but not least, the initial OPN Fund drive is OVER. Mandrakesoft's US subsidiary has pledged to contribute $1,000 to the OPN Fund as soon as their representative can wind his way through the elaborate procedures to transfer such a large sum. Your editor, who suggested the use of PayPal, is a bit embarrassed but is pencilling in the contribution. Fund raising will become a considerably lower priority while we begin the process of setting up the non-profit corporation.
Thanks to the many contributors to the OPN Fund. Thanks to Mandrakesoft who, of all of the community businesses your editor talked to, managed to "get it" in such a spectacularly generous way. Thanks to our users for making OPN such a worthwhile place.
Have a great evening! I know I will. :)

Today's news is a bit early and brief. Thanks to OPN staff members andy, cdlu and dent, who intercepted a clonebot attack at about 6:30am. As a result of their diligence, the attack was never consummated.
Your editor is in Paris, complete with working mobile phone. Your editor is exhausted this evening and is doing the news a bit early to go catch a late dinner. The Gelhausen sample for this evening is not yet out.
The OPN Fund countdown is still $788.34 US away from achieving our goal of $3,600, Please help us get to the point where we are able to start registering our non-profit corporation.

Good evening to all. Thanks to Fred Smith for his contribution to the OPN Fund; as a result, the countdown is now $788.34 US from achieving our goal of $3,600, at which point we will start the ball rolling on creating a non-profit corporation. Please help us out if you can.
Early this morning, your editor spent some time attempting to recompile our old services for FreeBSD and has given up for the time being. Your editor apologizes for the number of times he shut down services and started them up again to try a new patch. The problem is clearly not FreeBSD, it's the state of the source code. We'll move services when we get zelazny back, or when we bring up our next hidden hub. Oh, by the way, thanks to our newest server sponsor, Chris Burton, for providing heinlein, which we hope to have running sometime in the next week or so. :)
The Gelhausen sample for this evening is in the usual Monday doldrums at 3,155. Everything seems pretty stable.
With apologies to Verdi, l'editore è mobile this week as he visits Paris, France during the week in order to finish up a contract job. Once again, merci beaucoup to IC, who is providing cell phone voice and SMS connectivity, entirely at his own expense, as a donation to the network.
Have an excellent week.

Good evening, everyone. As of today, your editor will attempt to put out the news in the evenings (19:00-21:00, our peak activity period). Our Gelhausen sample for today is at 3,145. US-hubbed leaf nodes were moved to farmer, our new hidden hub, by about 7:30am today. The hub appears stable at press time. The sponsor of zelazny was in the middle of a move and has been contacted; he'll be on early morning looking at the server problem. Also, we'll be moving services back to hidden hubbing in a few minutes. Please bear with us and our apologies for the inconvenience.
Once again, the OPN Fund is still $807.41 away from our goal of $3,600, the point at which we can begin registering our non-profit corporation to run OPN. Remember that we're depending on you--if you don't help, who will? Please make a contribution. Speaking of contributions, special thanks to IC, who has graciously offered to provide a cell phone for your editor's use while he is in Paris. This should make staying connected in emergencies a lot easier.
Have a great evening!

Problems occurred yesterday with our new hidden hubbing; zelazny became inaccessible around 10:30am. Hidden hubbing is new to OPN and as a result of unfamiliarity with the problems and bad timing (Saturday morning coverage was not all we'd hope for), servers remained split for about an hour. Apologies to our users for this service interruption.
The network stayed on visible hubbing for the rest of the day. In addition, backups of services were inaccessible and we went back to a 19 April copy of the database. Thanks to Klatu for locating the 28 April 04:17 backup and reloading it on services around 16:00.
At press time, your editor is slowly moving servers over to a second invisible hub, farmer. Thanks to driz for sponsoring the new server. Expect splits this morning as we move US-hubbed leaf nodes and we'll be monitoring the stability of the new server. Oh, and the Gelhausen sample went back to 3,045 yesterday.
The OPN Fund is still $807.41 away from our goal of $3,600, the point at which we will be able to start the process of registering our non-profit corporation to run OPN. Please consider contributing to help us get there.
Have a great Sunday and an excellent week.
