Open project: Fundraising for education in Guatemala
Started: 2016/2017 – ongoing
Goal: Fundraising to help children afford school and education in the most exposed areas of Guatemala.
Background: My name is Marc Anderson and I work as a freelancer for various magazines and online news webpages since 2008. I travel a lot when I work and the first time I came to Guatemala I instantly fell in love with the country and the people. At that first trip, I mostly hung around Antigua Guatemala where I also educated children in english part time when not freelancing for magazines. I met so many wonderful people and children and got through different organizations and people the chance to travel to other areas. Here the lack of education in the poor areas were very visible and a major problem.
The project: Most of Guatemalas income is controlled by a very small percentage of the population and many social indicators of prosperity is among the lowest on the planet. Not everyone has access to clean water, electricity and education – something that we take for granted in the western world. In order to help Guatemala in the best of ways by helping them to help themselves, I want to fundraise money to fight the lack of education in the rural poorer areas of the country.
Together we have the possibility to change this and to make the lives of many people much better just by educating many parts of the country in basic construction and ways to clean water and effectively grow crops. Every dollar counts and this is why I wanted to reach out through websites like OpenProjects in order to fundraise for this project.
You can share and spread the word on the problems with education in Guatemala and also donate yourself to this project. To donate online is today very easy and fast. Thank you everyone for your generosity!
