History of IRC and Open Projects IRC
IRC first came into the world in 1988 by the Finnish guy Jarkko Oikarinen who worked at the University of Oulu in Finland. Jarkko had the nickname WiZ. The IRC networks was first used in his University and then between universities. It was not until 1990 that EFNet was introduced and Jarkko quickly became famous for his development of his piece of software. The most famous networks are EFNet, Dalnet and QuakeNet. Once upon a time QuakeNet had more than 100.000 active users on a daily basis. Nowadays the IRC Channel of Open projects is not as it once was. It has been switched to alternative platforms such as github. We believe that it still plays an important role due to the speed and quickness. But it is probably best used in combination with other platforms and version handlingen softwares. If you have any ideas of how to develop the Open Project IRC Channel further. Please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to make the internet a better place and hope you want to join us in our mission.
